Future is convinced Ronaldo has many enemies
Being Cristiano Ronaldo has its ups and downs, but being completely honest, it has more negative than positive connotations and contexts. Being one of the best players in history, being that successful, that rich and that good looking, always brings about the most terrible type of envy from all over the place. That's a big reason why Ronaldo tries to live a life away from the public eye when he is not playing football, but he can really avoid public scrutiny to a certain degree.
Ronaldo is one of the most famous individuals in the world, there is really no place where he can hide from anyone who has a slight idea of what football is. But that's not all, in football he also has people who hate him and always want to see him fail. That's why every single Portuguese individual tends to defend him from any kind of criticism, even Atletico Madrid legend Paolo Futre who is a well known Real Madrid hater. Even he gets to defend his compatriot Ronaldo from critics.
Talking to Cadena SER, Futre was clear: "Cristiano is Portuguese, he has done everything, is a European champion, but he has many enemies in Portugal for the way he is. He is very direct and creates many enemies in his own country. The things he says sometimes after games, and his attitude... There was a time when many people used to chant 'Messi, Messi, Messi' outside the Portugal team hotel, which was shameful. Without doubt there are people in Portugal who want Messi to win the Ballon d'Or. This is something very Portuguese."
