Kano/Jigawa NCS generates N8.7bn

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Command, on Thursday said it generated N8.7 billion as revenue in 2016.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Isa Danbaba gave the figure in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano.

According to him, the Command through its anti-smuggling unit, also recorded 180 seizures of various contrabands with a duty paid value of N351.6 million, making a cumulative of N9.05 billion revenue in the year under review.

“The seized goods include 1,944 jerry cans of 25 litre vegetable oil, 6,958 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 1,619 bales of second hand clothing, among other items,” Danbaba stated.

He quoted the Area Comptroller of the command, Mr Matthias Abutu, as attributing the feat to the Comptroller General’s effort in providing the necessary logistics needed for successful implementation of government policies in his areas of jurisdiction.

“Despite the economic recession in the country, the Kano/Jigawa Command was able to generate the huge amount of money as a result of the commitment of my officers and men in the year under review,” Abutu said.

He said the ban on importation of vehicles through the land borders was for the good of all Nigerians.

“The government planned to rebuild and develop the Nigeria’s automotive industry, which will create employment opportunities for the unemployed graduates,’’ the comptroller said.

He advised all legitimate traders in the command’s area of coverage, not to entertain any fear as their legitimate trade would be facilitated in 2017.

This, according to him, will have positive returns on their investments.
