Man bags 7 weeks imprisonment for stealing N1,500
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced 27-year-old Francis Maisamari to seven weeks imprisonment for stealing N1,500.
Maisamari had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.
The judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, however, gave the convict an option of N9,000 fine, with a stern warning to desist from theft and get a reliable means of livelihood.
The prosecutor, Mr Joshua Ayanna, had told the court that one Ona Clifford of Good Health Pharmacy, Waru village, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on Jan. 6.
Ayanna said that on the same date, the convict trespassed into the complainant’s pharmacy by breaking through the roof.
“He succeeded in stealing N1,500 and some drugs, the names and value of which are yet to be known,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that the offence was contrary to Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
