Arsenal started 2017 with a win as a memorable strike from Olivier Giroud helped them on their way to a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsene Wenger’s side remain nine points behind league leaders Chelsea, but look to be heading in the right direction again, responding to two defeats in a row with two wins in a row.

Arsenal probed well from the off but with little end product of note, with Giroud showing the more frustrating side of his game in the sixth minute as he failed to connect with a sitter from about two yards.
